Floyd Mayweather Jr’s Silence over a fight with Manny Pacquiao – means what?

By Ronald C Charles: Floyd Mayweather has opted to remain silent regarding a possible match-up with Manny Pacquiao, is this good news?

In truth, it’s not Mayweather but more his camp and associates that have openly voiced their opinion in the past.  Mayweather himself has stayed relatively quiet (unless of course we are watching HBO 24/7 on the lead up to one of his fights) but with that he focuses his attention on his already scheduled opponent.

Earlier in the month, Pacquiao agreed to the 14 day cut of, the offer from previous negotiations that where mediated by retired federal judge Daniel Weinstein.  Various reports suggested Mayweather had issued a statement saying that offer was no longer on the table and that he expected Pacquiao to undergo the same testing as his previous opponent Shane Mosley (right up to the day of the fight).

Mayweather fans claim no such statement was released, in truth I have never heard such a statement and not through the lack of trying to find. Mayweather or his spokesman did not confirm or deny issuing any such statement.

After the negotiations broke down earlier in the year and with the whole debacle that followed, I would suggest for this fight the old, saying “no news is good news” applies.

Let’s just hope Mayweather is basking in his recent victory and is planning to fight the Pac-Man later in the year.  Mayweather openly admits he fights for money (and who can blame him) but it’s Pacquiao who represents the most lucrative fight out there for Mayweather.
