Loose Talks Could Put Mayweather-Pacquiao Fight in Jeopardy

By Leo Reyes: When Bob Arum left the Philippines right after Pacquiao's election victory last May 10, he said he will work hard upon his return to the US to make the Pacquiao-Mayweather match happen this year.

During his short visit, Arum restrained himself from talking openly about the Pacquiao-Mayweather match but he emphasized that the fight should be made because it is the match the world wants to see.

Arum explained that a gag order will be in effect once formal negotiations start.

The amiable and popular promoter has been working silently for over a week with Richard Schaefer, CEO of Golden Boy Promotions, the company representing Floyd Mayweather, Jr. in the negotiating with Arum on behalf of Pacquiao.

But on Friday, Arum told Ronnie Nathanielz of Manila Standard that the on-going negotiations with Mayweather is being threatened by irritating comments coming from members of team Pacquiao.

“I know Manny is just as angry as I am that these guys, who have nothing to do with any of these negotiations, keep shooting their mouths off and inflaming the situation,” an upset Arum told Manila Standard.

“What are Eric Pineda and Jeng Gacal, who know nothing about what’s happening, doing? Why are they shooting their mouths off?” Arum added.

Arum said he spends so much time telling the negotiators to just ignore the talks coming from members of Pacquiao's team. But he said its becoming irritating and it may affect the ongoing negotiations because of the gag order.

Arum was referring to the recent comments by Eric Pineda and Jeng Gacal regarding the fight purse sharing which was previously agreed at 50:50. It was reported in the local media that Mayweather was asking for a 60-40 in his favor, which triggered the open discussion of the subject in the media.

Since Pacquiao announced his consent for a 14-day cut-off for the random blood test more than a week ago, Mayweather has not made any comment and opted to remain silent on the issue.

However, Philstar.com, quoting Examiner.com website, said Mayweather had issued a statement saying Pacquiao should comply with his new term which is random test up to the day of the fight.

Mayweather supporters said no such statement was made. Mayweather or his spokesman did not confirm or deny issuing the statement.

Forget Mayweather, it’s no use to argue with him. Just do not pay attention to what he and his dad are saying, they are a lot of bull. Huwag patulan ang mga sira. Let’s go on with our lives, let the Mayweathers run their big mouths and comepletely ignore them. History will judge and tell how this felons behaved during their lifetime.

It is clear who the bums are. Even Arum is frustrated?....just imajine how much Floyd would? The problem is there are a lot of Pacfans who have come to love boxing because of Manny, that is acceptable, but they aught to know that everything does not start and end with Manny, even in hell, there is order of doing things. Nut heads will not understand this I know, but the few that will the better things will become.

Here's a drastic, outlandish suggestions for this fight to become a reality.

Issue # 1 Drug testing.

Suggestion: With approval of the boxing commission or other authoritative and sanctioning body(ies) and with the supervision of AMA or medical experts (endocrinologist) both fighters will voluntarily be subjected to "performance-enhancing regimen" with the appropriate cut-off time before the fight.

Refusal from the regimen will not be enforced. In this way it will be a level playing field. No more accusation of cheating. If both will agree to undergo with the regimen, then both are cheaters. One who refuses is the honest one.

But before all this procedure will start, both fighters will extensively be informed and educated about short and long term effects of anabolic steroid to the human body. Both will have to sign a contract.

I personally does not believe the performance-enhancement drugs will not make a "superhuman out of a weakling"

Issue # 2 Purse

Suggestion: What's wrong with a winner take all proposition?
If both fighters can not agree on a fair sharing of revenue then scheme has to be made, not on the basis of PPV showing but on relevant issue of major entertainment. It is an extensive perception that this fight is the clamor of the times, to settle once and for all who is the best.

Is this ethical? NO! This could be like the times of the gladiators in the Roman Era, where one's freedom or being fed to the beast depend upon the victor and vanquished in the arena.

But with all these kind of things going around, frustration is setting in that this fight could not become a reality?

You know what Leo, you don't know what you're talking about. Arum has not been working silently. He was one of the first to open his mouth.

He confirmed Pac agreed to 14 day cut-off. He said Mayweather's camp was "properly notified" of the concession on testing. He also said he has not heard a word back from Mayweather's camp. Arum said all this so how is he working "silently". He's announced dates and venues.

Arum is a snake, plain and simple; wake up.

If he brings another top rank fighter to fight Pacman, guess what? People will be pissed and no one's gonna buy the fight, which brings the sales down. Therefore, Arum's not gonna make sales. Pitting pacman against another top rank fighter (or any other fighter for that matter) besides Mayweather is the dumbest move Arum will have made. Nothing good comes out of it trust.

Pacman's adviser and team have their right to express what would be fair to the P4P fighter Manny Pacquiao. If Bob Arum allows Floyd again on his demand of a bigger share, i would think that Bob is only thinking about his self and probably Floyd offer Bob another percentage to convince Pacman to agree Floyd's demand. It's another conspiracy between the two and they will hide it in public. It's like the same thing the Xylocaine issue where NSADA allows Floyd to use that drug, and Floyd vs Mosley fights was like scripted. Floyd is always to be called the Money "May" where he uses money to dictate everyone in boxing from NSADA, USADA, promoters (Bob, and ODLHP), Mosley and people who pays PPV.

People!!! It's time to wake up!!! If Floyd proclaims his the best, then He should prove it and fight the best fighter with out anymore excuses. He never really wants to fight Pacman!!! Period! Period! Period!
