By Adrian Bestemianova: Tonight, Vitali (Dr Ironfist) continued the Klitschko domination of the heavyweight division. Klitschko BOSSED Albert Sosnowski in front of an estimated 60,000 at the Veltins Arena, Gelsenkirchen, Germany, home of the football club FC Schalke 04. The win boosts Vitali Klitschko’s record to 40-2-0 (38KO’s).
Vitali in customary fashion established his jab and settled into an early rhythm. It wasn’t long until Klitschko was bossing his Polish opponent, while Sosnowski struggled to get inside. Sosnowski put up a gallant effort, throwing feints while pressing forward, but the champion was controlling the distance beautifully taking the snap out of the punches that did find their target.
By the mid way, point Sosnowski’s face was beginning to mark up as the accumulative effect started to show, however the challenger was fighting like a man who wanted to win the heavyweight title, and by no means looked out of his depth like many pundits had suggested when the fight was announced.
The first cracks appeared at the end of the ninth when Klitschko opend up with the challenger on the ropes. The champion continued his aggression in the tenth loading up while landing repeated rights, with 30 seconds remaiing in the round an exhausted looking Sosnowski was sent to the canvas with Referee Jay Nady calling an end to the contest after closely observing the challenger throught the round.
This was Vitali’s fourth defence of his WBC title he captured in 2008 when returning as the emeritus champion after a four year lay-off.

The Ukrainian fought three times in 2009, unusual for a heavyweight. Klitschko has said he plans on keeping as busy in twenty-ten, so we may not have long to wait before his next opponent is announced.
Undefeated Miami based Cuban, Odlanier Solis 16-0-0, (12Kos) is Vitali’s mandatory challenger, however the brothers have went on record stating their desire to monopolise the heavyweight division; and to have all titles under the Klitschko banner. The only obstacle in their way is brash Londoner David Haye; who currently holds the WBA version of the title.
It’s common knowledge brother Wladimir wants the challenge and even released a video calling out the Haymaker. The problem for Wladimir is he currently holds two major titles therefore has to fulfil both contracts to face Alexander Povetkin whose Wladimir’s mandatory for both IBF and WBO titles.
It was reported Povitkin’s trainer and ESPN commentator Teddy Atlas said his fighter is not ready for the challenge and that he would prefer another fight or two before taking on Wladimir, suggesting Pavetkin would accept step aside money to pave the road for a Wladimir vs. Haye bout.
Whatever brother faces Haye it’s surely the most exiting fight out there for both and would most likely stir up more interest than any fight in the division over the past decade.
Another option would be a bout against the popular Tomasz Adamek who has looked good since making the transition to the heavyweight ranks. Adamek recently signed to fight Michael Grant, signs that would suggest he is looking to prepare himself for a Klitschko as Grant stands the same height as the Klitschkos and has six inch reach advantage over both.
Leave a Comment - Question: What brother would Haye have a better chance of beating?
